SONIFICAZIONE della Via della Musica in Val Resia
Nel 2011 Andrea Dalla Costa avvia il progetto DNArt: un viaggio sensoriale
tra arte, scienza e spiritualità, un percorso tra l’umano e la dimensione naturale, tra la radice e il suono. Un progetto che si immerge ed esplora l’invisibile naturale alla ricerca di ciò che ancora non siamo in grado di “sentire”.
Reinterpretando le ricerche scientifiche sulla sonificazione del DNA già intraprese a partire dagli anni Settanta, il Progetto DNArt sviluppa una sua personale via per far risuonare questo ponte fra umanità e natura.
Facendo ricorso alla notazione anglosassone, sono state attribuite delle note musicali alle basi azotate che costituiscono il DNA (A=La per l’Adenina, C=Do per la Citosina, G=Sol per la Guanina e T=Si per la Timina). Sono state quindi analizzate le trascrizioni del DNA di sette varietà arboree presenti in Val Resia. In ogni DNA arboreo sono state identificate alcune sequenze che generano frammenti melodici riconoscibili nonostante l’utilizzo di sole quattro note.
Tutti i brani di questo progetto sono il risultato dell’individuazione di queste sequenze melodiche e della loro trascrizione armonica secondo le regole della musica occidentale. Alle trascrizioni melodiche del DNA di ciascuna essenza arborea sono state sovrapposte le registrazioni dei bioritmi musicali delle piante, ottenute grazie all’utilizzo di convertitori di energia arborea dello Xilema*.
Accade che le due linee sonore si armonizzino. I materiali sonori del progetto, dal fruscio delle foglie alla “voce” degli alberi, sono stati registrati da Andrea Dalla Costa nei boschi della Val Resia, lungo la Via della Musica.
• Lo Xilema è tessuto linfatico vascolare delle piante che trasporta la linfa dalle radici alle foglie: invisibile, ma essenziale.

SONIFICATION of the Via della Musica in Val Resia
In 2011, Andrea Dalla Costa launched the DNArt project: a sensory journey through art, science, and spirituality — a path between humanity and the natural dimension, between root and sound. A project that dives into and explores the invisible layers of nature in search of what we are still unable to truly “hear.”
Reinterpreting scientific research on DNA sonification, originally explored in the 1970s, the DNArt project develops its own unique way of giving voice to this bridge between humankind and the living world.
Using Anglo-Saxon musical notation, musical notes were assigned to the nitrogenous bases of DNA (A = A for Adenine, C = C for Cytosine, G = G for Guanine, and T = B for Thymine).
The DNA sequences of seven tree species native to Val Resia were analyzed. Within each genome, melodic fragments were identified — patterns that, despite being based on only four notes, generate recognizable motifs.
Each composition in this project is the result of selecting these melodic sequences and transcribing them harmonically using the rules of Western classical music. To the melodic DNA transcription of each tree species, Andrea Dalla Costa overlaid the musical biorhythms of the plants, captured using xylem energy converters. The two sound layers — DNA and plant biorhythm — often find a natural harmony. The sonic materials of this project — from the rustling of leaves to the “voices” of trees — were recorded by Andrea Dalla Costa in the forests of Val Resia, along the Via della Musica.
